Design and Features
Nokia says it’s the first of its unibody phones to offer a microSD
card slot too. You’ll find the memory card slot on the side, released
with a pin, where the non-unibody Lumia 820 has a removable back that
hid the slot.
Software
Just like any Nokia Lumia Windows Phone, the Nokia Lumia 720’s
software basics are all supplied by the Windows Phone 8. Microsoft
simply doesn’t allow that much customisation in the operating system.
Among Windows phone makers, though, Nokia supplies some of the best
extras. The stars of the show are Nokia Maps, which lets you download
entire countries for use offline, and the GPS navigator Nokia Drive.
However, Nokia has decided to call these the HERE suite now, dropping
the Nokia branding. This is because Nokia is to start rolling these apps
out to non-Nokia Windows phones.
It now also incorporates public transport, with HERE transit, although we’ll have to wait to see how this copes in the UK.
The most recent new addition to the Nokia app roster, though, is Nokia Music Plus, which is a Spotify alternative that costs

Camera
The Nokia Lumia 720 has a pretty impressive-sounding camera. Although
it doesn’t sport the PureView branding, which started with the 808
PureVIew (excellent camera, but a commercial disaster), it features an
f/1.9 lens.
This is one of the fastest mobile phone lenses around, with even the Nokia Lumia 920 using an f/2.0 lens. Such a lens should give the Nokia Lumia 720 better low-light performance than other phones at the price. We had a quick play with the camera, and it seemed to focus fairly quickly – although we’ll reserve judgement for the full review.

Screen
Like so many current Nokia phones, the Nokia Lumia
720 has a ClearBlack screen. However, what this means varies depending
on what phone you’re looking at – it’s a marketing term and little more
in actuality. What it refers to is Nokia’s attempt to make a
decent-quality screen.
In the Nokia Lumia 720 this equates to a 4.3-inch 480 x 800 pixel IPS
display. Its top glass layer is curved lightly at the edges too, which
is easy on both the hand and the eye.
Throughout the interface, the display looks sharp despite the pretty
poor resolution, but the low pixel density will become clear in apps
that have less visual optimisation. Most notably, small text in the
browser quickly becomes unreadable where it would be quite clear on
something like the iPhone 5.
Battery
The Nokia Lumia 720 uses the same-size battery as the Lumia 920,
although we had to take Nokia’s word for this as the unibody design
means the battery is completely non-removable.
However, the big news here is that the Nokia Lumia 720 supports wireless charging, using a proprietary case. You jam the case’d phone onto a charging plate accessory and the battery will start being replenished. Nokia is also going to release a car dock version – a further threat to dedicated SatNavs when you consider that HERE Drive is a pretty good navigation tool by itself.

Release Date and Price
Although it’s more of a tweak of the Lumia 820 than a revolution, the
Nokia Lumia 720 makes a lot of the right moves. The most important of
the lot is price – it will sell for around 249 Euro, which should equate
to around the same figure in pounds
